A slit or other narrow opening, especially one for receiving something, as a coin or a letter. Also: a position, assignment, job opening, window, or niche. “The plane will land at the next slot,” said the air traffic controller.

A casino game in which a player inserts cash or, in ticket-in, ticket-out machines, paper tickets with barcodes, into a slot and activates the reels, whose symbols vary depending on the machine’s theme. In software development, a slot (also called a scope) is a container for a template fragment. The template fragment’s content is rendered in the slot by a child component using its render scope. For example, template v-slot:header> would render the header section of the page in the header slot of the child component.
